Homemade : Papaya Hand Scrub

Hey guys,

Whats that saying? 'You can tell a persons age by their hands…'
Well let's make sure your hands stay looking youthful and poised so you will never have that worry!
This follows on from my previous post "Rescue your hands and nails this winter", and I thought I would talk a little more about the homemade hand scrub, and its ingredients, and why they are fabulous!

For this lush homemade hand scrub you will need:

-  Ripened Papaya:  Removes dead skin cells, soothing
-  Half a lemon:  Needed for zesting, skin enhancing
-  Pure honey:  Smoothing effect, anti-microbial properties
-  Extra virgin olive oil:  Moisturising
-  Demerara/ brown/ white sugar:  Exfoliating

This hand scrub is great as part of a hand care routine as shown in the previous post, or just for those times where you can feel your hands getting a little rough and dry. This scrub is great for the winter when our hands start to suffer as it contains many exfoliating and smoothing agents combined.

Steps:

1.  Firstly add 1 table spoon of pure honey to a bowl
2.  Add 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil to the bowl
3.  Take one lemon, cut that in half and then using a lemon zester or just a grater (I have used a grater), zest off the lemon peel.

4.  Add 4 table spoons of sugar to the bowl (you may require more or less). The amount really depends on the texture of the overall mixture; you have to be able to feel the sugar well in order for it to exfoliate effectively.
5.  Add the lemon zest to the mixture in the bowl

6.  Cut the ripened Papaya in half, and remove all the seeds from the centre. A ripe Papaya should be soft and easy to scoop out. Scoop the Papaya into the bowl and mix all the ingredients together

Once mixed, the scrub is ready to use! Gently scrub on hands, covering the whole surface. After exfoliation, leave the mixture on the hands for 5-7 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. Dry hands and finish with your favourite hand cream!
